I finally stopped getting yeast infections when I decided to tackle the disease holistically. After reading a page on alternative medicine at Whole Life Pages, I decided to completely alter my approach. And how 6 months later I am no longer suffering from chronic yeast infections. In this article I provide details on the three key shifts that I did.
1) I stopped only masking the symptoms but tried to get at the root cause of the disease. There is more evidence to suggest that people who suffer from local, superficial yeast infections also have an overgrowth or imbalance of Candida in their gut. So simply slapping on an antifungal or anti-yeast cream won’t work long term. It may make the local symptoms better but will do little to address the cause of the problem.
2) I started to change my diet, cutting way back on simple sugars. This was difficult at first, but with time my sugar cravings have receeded. The theory behind this is that yeats feed on sugar so reducing your intake helps starve the yeast, or at least reduce its ability to grow opoortunistically into an outbreak.
3) I started to adjust some of my lifestyle habits, in particular focusing on trying to reduce stress in my life. This is easier said than done, but I did consciously try to avoid stressful situations and people, started to practice mediation and took a course of herbal anxiety supplements. It is said that stress can lower the immune system, reducing its ability to tackle pathogenic organisms such as yeast.
You can see that an integrated approach to tackling yeast infections is not easy. It;s far easier to slap on an antifungal cream a few times a day than change deep-seated dietary and lifestyle habits that may have been ingrained over a lifetime. But I tell you I feel much better for having done so.
